The SoFloWebfest is a festival that is dedicated to digital creators. SoFLoWebfest provides a space for actors, directors, producers, and fans of web series and the other various forms of digital entertainment to network and share their experiences and work with each other. SoFloWebfest screens some of the best local, national, and international web series. As the curators of the SoFloWebfest, MUCE likes to focus on cinema that reflects non-traditional voices and bring them to the forefront. In addition to focusing on unconventional narratives that are told cinematically, MUCE LOVES to do groundbreaking work and create spaces that are socially progressive. Seriously, even in 2016, focusing on unorthodox art and stories is progressive in itself. For this very reason, MUCE is ecstatic to bring to you the FIRST EVER web series festival featuring VIRTUAL REALITY!
The Miami Urban Contemporary Experience (MUCE), in partnership with Puntilla Films, is presenting the first ever web series festival in conjunction with a virtual reality workshop! MUCE will debut this first ever phenomenon at the SoFloWebfest during Art Basel in Miami from December 1st- December 4th, 2016. The web series festival will be taking place at the Chef Creole Performance Park, located at 200 NW 54th ST, minutes away from the famous Wynwood District.
Now, what is virtual reality, you ask? Virtual reality can be described as “the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors,” at least according to Google. Now, what exactly does that mean? Basically, it means that virtual reality is accessing your other senses. The ones you don’t learn about in school. Virtual reality is a version of reality that is not real, but it perceived to be real by the person who is viewing it. Virtual reality is creating a computer generated environment that people can explore. Think 3D movies and/or video games.
Now, the obvious series of questions are: why would I care? Why is virtual reality so important? How does it impact my life? Well, for starters, virtual reality is about to change almost ever facet of technology that you could possibly imagine. Virtual reality is going to change the worlds of gaming, television, cinema, and just about any other area of technology that effects entertainment. For example, those front row seats you wish you could afford to see your favorite entertainer or a sideline view of your favorite sport you wish you could have? Virtual reality is making experiences like that more attainable AND more affordable. Are you interested now? Major corporations such as Live Nation has struck a major deal with a virtual reality company, NextVR, to bring virtual reality concerts to its consumer as early as Summer 2017! The futuristic dreams of The Jetsons is upon us.
As previously stated, the MUCE team is pairing up with Puntilla Films to incorporate an interactive virtual reality into the SoFloWebfest- one of the many perks of joining us at our web series festival. The SoFLoWebfest is not your typical web fest. Get ready for the future of films and web. Submit at the SoFloWebfest website for more information on our festival.
