South Florida WebFest (#SOFLOWEBFEST) is Miami’s premier web festival dedicated to non-traditional voices in cinema. Ashlee K. Thomas, Festival Director
Miami Native, Ashlee K. Thomas has returned to her hometown to launch #SOFLOWEBFEST. Ashlee K. Thomas is the co-founder and founding festival director of Melbourne WebFest, Australia’s first and largest web series festival. She is very happy to see that the solid foundation has provided continued growth of her first webfest baby. With a Bachelors in Marketing and Masters in Public Administration, Thomas has more than 20 years of experience in performance art and education and has been able to integrate her production, logistical management and love for grass roots movements into festival production. She runs the Miami Urban Contemporary Experience, popping-up art exhibitions around the cities and diversifying the artist landscape of the western world. She has performed and served as a teaching artist in Los Angeles, Australia, Haiti, Trinidad, Guyana and Dominican Republic. She has also developed arts education programs for the prestige dance company CONTRA-TIEMPO and serves as manager of education and community engagement at the Adrienne Arsht Center. She is excited to share her knowledge and networks with the web series community. Her passion is arts and sustainability and she is committed to bringing invaluable opportunities to #SOFLOW festival goers.
After 3 dynamic years with WPLG, channel 10, Bart Mervil set out to produce his own brand of news for the people. With an eye for detail and exposing the truth, he went into the underbelly of urban culture to bring about thought provoking documentaries. Mervil has more than 25 years of experience in cinematography, editing, and production. He has served as camera operator, director, producer, and editor on numerous projects over his career span. Video production credits include: Jazz in the Gardens, MTV, WPLG 10, and Universal.
